Chart Buttons

Chart Buttons enable you to add push buttons or menu buttons to any chart window to perform a variety of actions as shown in the image below. Buttons can be added to any pane of any chart just as you would add any indicator, or you can elect to move one or all of your buttons to a special pane at the top of the chart called a button pane in order to have an array of chart buttons nicely positioned at the top of the chart.

If you have one or more buttons that you wish to appear in every chart, set the scope of the button to "All Charts, Any Instrument" at the bottom of the Button Preferences window. Thereafter, any chart you openwill have the these buttons.

Add or Edit a Button

Right click any chart and choose Add Button to add a new button. If you'd like to add a button that will be associated with toggling a particular Technical Indicator, you can right click the Indicator and choose Add Button. Alternatively, you can press the Insert Key on your keyboard to bring up the Add Technical Indicator dialogue window and scroll to Buttons.

To edit an existing button, right click the button as shown in the image below:

The preferences for the button will then appear for editing.

  • Purpose - Buttons can serve a variety of purposes as shown in the image at the top of this page.
  • Type of Button - This group controls whether the button will be a push button (a single function) or a popup menu button.
  • Custom Title -  An optional custom text to be used as the title of the button. Either pushbuttons or menu buttons can have custom titles
  • Position at Top - If this is checked, the button will appear at the top edge of the pane, otherwise, it will appear at the bottom edge.
  • Custom Color - Optional custom colors to be used as the background of the button.
  • Button Values - The bottom text control allows you to enter the value or values that the button will represent. The values will of course depend on the purpose of the button. In the example above a list of ticker symbols is request for a menu button.

Using Chart Buttons for Adjusting Scaling

Right-click in a multi-pane chart and choose Add > Button. In the Button setup, set the Purpose to Change Scaling. The setup window will then prompt you for a shortcut code for the scaling method you want to button to invoke.
