If Investor/RT seems to be running sluggishly, it may be because a particular indicator in some chart is taking an excessive amount of time to calculate. Follow these steps to diagnose further:
- Go to Setup > Configuration. In the Find box, search for the variable named IndicatorCalcWarnMillsecs. Change the value to 100 or lower, and click OK.
- Press Alt+M to open the Message Log. In the upper left corner of the Log, access the down arrow menu and choose Search Message Log > Warning.
- A new window will appear showing the logged messages that include the word Warning.
Reading each line from left to right, you will see a time-stamp, the number of milliseconds the particular Indicator took to calculate, and the name of the indicator (example: VB for Volume Breakdown or SESST for Session Statistics). You will also see the chart's name and the ticker symbol associated with the indicator. Once you have this information, you can open that chart and take a look at the indicator's preferences. Usually the culprit is a chart with a long view period and/or an indicator that is doing repetitive calculations on the whole chart. Try closing the chart temporarily to see if the sluggishness disappears; if so, you have found the culprit. If you need assistance after identifying the chart and indicator(s) that are causing the sluggishness, open a ticket and attach the chart's definition. To create a chart definition, right-click in the culprit chart and choose Save > Definition to File; then attach that file to the ticket.
