What is Presentation Mode?

When Investor/RT is operating in Presentation Mode, certain graphical objects, like candlestick bodies, histograms, custom profiles, and Renko chart boxes, are drawn with a shading effect. While this mode can be more aesthetically pleasing, it is not generally recommended for continuous use. Drawing objects in this mode is more processor intensive. You may want to limit use of this feature to creating screenshots, or when reviewing charts after market hours.

Daily Periodicity Volumes don't match Intraday

Charts that utilize a periodicity of "Daily" will show a different quantity of Volume when compared to charts that utilize an intraday periodicty like 1 minute or 1 Day*. This is caused by the fact that certain types of trades, such as block trades, spread trades and market trades, are considered by the exchange when reporting the cumulative daily volume for a specific symbol or contract. However, those trades are not represented in the tick or 1-minute intraday data for the symbol. These trades together make up the difference observed between the daily volume and the sum of the intraday volume.

I'm having a problem upgrading to the latest version of Investor/RT. What can I do?

Below are some common problems that users run into when upgrading to the latest version of Investor/RT.

The updater can be found at www.linnsoft.com/download

You must shut down Investor/RT before running the updater. If you fail to do so, you will get a message during the update installation reporting that a file cannot be replaced because it is in use. If you see this error message, shut down Investor/RT and then proceed with installation.

Why do I have a message STATIC CHART in the window title?

The message means that the chart is static, that is, it does not respond to incoming realtime streaming data. You will see this message, for example, if you have the chart's view period preference setup so the chart ends at some date in the past - A TPO Profile chart setup to show 3 days of profile ending 2 days ago for example, or a traditional chart with a specific ending date. This message appears in the chart's title bar in real-time editions of Investor/RT as a warning in case the static nature of the chart was unintended.

Naming conventions for scans, Quotepages, and other objects

Quotepages, Charts, Scans, Signals, and Custom Indicators may have names up to 31 characters in length. Quotepage names may not begin with a period, since the period is used by Investor/RT to denote built-in system-defined quotepages, e.g. .Stocks or .Intraday. There are no other restrictions on quotepage names. Charts and Quotepage names that begin with Untitled... are treated in a special way. A chart or quotepage may be saved with such a name.

Understanding Groups

A Group is simply a named collection of objects and (possibly) other groups, called subgroups. Objects are things you work with in Investor/RT, e.g. charts, quotepages, scans, signals, custom indicators, preset, etc. Groups give the Investor/RT user a facility for organizing collections of objects into named categories and subcategories. Instead of going through a list of 200 chart names looking for the one you want, you can setup one or more groups with appropriate names to hold shorter lists of charts.

What is the Delete Key in the Macintosh Version. How about the Alt-Key and Ctrl-Key

Much of the documentation for Investor/RT is written from the perspective of the Windows version of the software. There is frequent mention of the Alt key, the Ctrl Key and the Delete Key. These are keys typically visible on Windows PC keyboards. On Macintosh PC's the keys are labeled differently (Think Different, as the Apple slogan goes).

The Alt Key is called the Command key on Macintosh keyboards. The symbol on the key typically resembles a cloverleaf. Long time users of Macintosh PCs will remember the days when this key was called the Apple key.
